Prepaid or post paid
spinnaker15136

After years of using my trusty flip phone, I am considering making the switch to a smart phone.

My question is which plan?

Verizon has a 2G plan that is pretty much at the upper end of what I want to pay.

'Wireless Cell Phone Plans, Unlimited Talk & Text, Prepaid, & More

They also have a prepaid plan at around $40 for $3G of data.

I don't get it.   why is the postpaid plan more expensive and less data than the prepaid plan?   What am I missing?

I do realize I need to buy my own phone with prepaid.   But don't I also need to do that with the postpaid plan?

Postpaid: Grace period of service if you're late, bill after service, highest priority on the network, ability to finance equipment

Prepaid: Must pay ahead to start service, If you can't pay you get cut off asap, lower priority on the network, must own equipment, less support

It's cheaper because of the reasons above.

spinnaker15136, It is always a good idea to look at every avenue when looking to make an investment like a cellular plan. I am here to assist with any questions or concerns you may have. Thank you, glitchedpixel, your input is correct. There are a few more differences of Postpaid and Prepaid. Postpaid, for instance, you have the ability to purchase phones on device payment. This is where you can make monthly payments on the phone instead of paying full retail up front. You also get extra features like Caller Name ID, insurance for your phone, Verizon will cover the warranty. Prepaid you have fewer options. We do not cover the warranty you have to go directly to the manufacturer, and you have to pay full retail up front are the differences. Does this help answer your questions?

And isn't insurance extra for post paid?    If not can you provide a link to where insurance is included?   Does insurance come with bring your own device or just with Verizon phones?

Insurance is a separate line item on the bill.

BYOD devices don't qualify for insurance unless you add insurance during the open enrollment period.

I'm most definitely NOT a VZW employee. If a post answered your question, please mark it as the answer.

Hi. I'm Mike. Now you know someone who pays half as much for prepaid than Verizon offers for post paid.
