Poor reception

i typically have 1-2 signal strength in my home. Same when I step outside. The Verizon LTE coverage map shows nice bright red coverage in my area. When I call customer service I am told that reception is merginal in our area and that I should buy an extender. Looks like the extender is only 3G and they want me to pay for it. Does anyone else see a problem with that? I am a long-time multi-line customer. Service has always been marginal here despite being in a very urban area (95125). As a minimum it seems they should provide an extender free of charge while looking to improve the level of service to the area the level that they advertise.
