New to Verizon - Have MANY Feature/Plan Questions...
cncden
Newbie

Joined the Verizon Family today...

Was a Sprint subscriber for MANY years - was on a fantastic plan, better than anything they offer today - and I gave it all up to switch to Verizon (more expensive) because I'm under the impression that the rural areas I travel will be covered. That was the ONLY complaint I had with my old service!

Now, I have a brand new Samsung Intensity & a Moto Vu204 on the Family Share Basic plan with 250 Txt added (to both lines) and 2 insurance coverages.

I have no idea about texting, browsing, et cetera - I only used my phone with Sprint... Perfectly happy without all the bells & whistles, but EVERYONE called me a relic & said I had to join the 21st Century - so here I am, and I have NO IDEA what I just bought or how to use it.

I want to make sure there are no "extras" on my plan besides the two I listed above, but I don't even know what is default (included) in the "Basic" plan.

I want to learn how to use these bells & whistles I now have. I can't find any feature descriptions, per item charges (except the txt package), or how to use anything.

These are the "additional features" listed on my online plan page - most of the links do not work - specifically the see all features link = The requested URL /clc/features/view_all.html was not found on this server.

I see the 250 txt msgs (obviously) but I do not see the insurance I bought on both phones & I want to be sure I didn't get "slipped" any extras. I could also use a crash course on what the rest of all this is (means) & how to use it. Like/for instance what is the difference - no answer transfer or call forward no answer? Is call waiting automatic or something I must activate? What is the Gen IP Addy for? What does TEC phones mean? I want to make sure I don't accidentally use a feature that is pay as you go (a la carte)... did I manage to block everything?

PLEASE HELP ME!!

I require patient guidance - in simple, detailed English...

I would be most grateful!!

Welcome to Verizon and welcome to the 21st Century, albeit kicking and screaming....:smileyvery-happy:

I'll try to answer your concerns as best I can -I don't see that they "slipped you any extras" - your texting plan is there, as is the insurance, and all the other features are included.  I'll try and explain them.

Good explanations from Suzy, as usual.

I'd like to explain the call forwarding features for you. There are two options for call forwarding; No Answer Transfer and Immediate (or no answer).

No answer transfer will allow your calls to be transferred to the number of your choosing after your phone rings a certain amount of time and you don't answer. So if someone calls your cell phone and you don't answer, it will automatically get forwarded to a different number. Keep in mind this will prevent the caller from leaving a voicemail on your cellphone and will only be able to leave a voicemail on the number you have it forwarded to.

To activate this feature you dial: *71 + phone number with area code and then press SEND. Example; *715051234567 then SEND.

The immediate call forwarding feature is similiar, except it will transfer all calls to the number of your choosing immediately. It will not ring on your cell phone at all and you will receive no notification on your cell phone that a call has been transferred, it will only ring on the number that you forwarded it to. Same rules apply to voicemail here.

To activate you dial: *72 + phone number with area code then press SEND. Example; *725051234567 then SEND.

After you press SEND the call will only connect for 2-3 seconds, but at that point it has been activated.

At any point if you wish to deactivate either call forwarding feature you can dial *73 then SEND and it will be deactivated immediately.

So that's basically a crash course in call forwarding.

Also, keep in the mind, the sneaky part of any call forwarding feature is that it still uses your airtime if the number you forward your calls to is not a VZW number. Forwarding your calls to a landline? It's going to use your minutes during peak hours. The way around this, of course, is to have that forwarded number in your Friends & Family list.
