New Community - Feedback, Questions and Gripes

Hello,

I wanted to start a post (or perhaps its referred to as a discussion) to go over my first impressions of the new site and some of the things I have noticed.  Feel free to add your own feedback.

1. Where is the real Community Feedback section?  The old forum had a place that was ideal for this kind of a thread.  I'm picking the My Verizon area for now, but maybe a Mod can move it to a better spot in the future.

- Update: Looks like I can do it on my own now!  Moved the discussion into the VZW Services area.

2. How do I add/remove tags?  Old forum allowed us to add Tags and Kudos to posts.  Im aware Kudos are gone but are Tags gone now too?

- Update: I see that there is a area at the bottom of the post that lets you add tags.  Doesnt seem like you can do the same for other peoples postings though.

3. How does the new point system work?  I noticed I have over 300 points now which makes me a silver.  Anyone know how that breaks down and how I can continue to gain points in the future?  A specific guide or list would be great.

4. Is there a 4G discussion area?  Seems like its completly gone now.

- Update: Found it, thanks .  Too bad its no longer exposed on the Home Page like it used to be.

5. Navigation seems clunky.  I was hoping they would display an area or signify where the MiFi devices belong with this new change.  There best spot is under the netbooks and broadband area, yet the image for that area is only of a Netbook.  Also, the expanding Android and mobile phone areas on the home page are already annoying.  If you hover over them on accident the page has to animate itself and throws you off.  Really wish they would just make a static link so you can quickly get to where you want from one spot (breadcrumb).

- Update: A breadcrumb feature is actually there but its not very intuative.  I liked the old format that showed you how deep you were into the forum.

6. Deleting posts seems like an improvement.  Now we can go into any of our previous posts and delete them.  Its nice to know that if you notice a mistake in your post that you can always go back and redo it at a later time.

7. Old links are busted.  This makes me sad but is understandable when moving from one forum system to another.

- Update: It seems that old links are now working.  Thanks VZW/Jive!

8. Minor Edit Checkbox is nice!  No need to send off a email notification to everyone if you need to fix a spelling mistake or typo.  Hopefully it works the way I assume it does.

9. Images in the postings display nicely too.  See my example above.

10. Slow.  I assume this has something to do with all the activity that is going on with the migration.  Browsing back and forth between the different areas is definitly hurting at the moment.

11. The @Tag does not work very well (See #4 when I tried to @ someone).  If you @Tag someone it provides a link with the users first name and last name.  This mechanic works fine if the user entered a Firstname and Lastname, but if they did not then the Link does not appear and is not helpful.  It would be much better to link the Username instead of the real names.

-Update: The @Tag's seem to be working correctly now.  Usernames are displayed when Usernames are tagged as expected.

12. The WYSIWYG editor does not display what is actually published very well.  I have to consistently go back and re-edit my posts so the propper formatting is displayed.  I may have to resort to editing the pure HTML to keep everything formatted correctly.

13. Copy/Paste appears to break the site.  When I try to respond to someone and do not use the Quote function I noticed that my browser locks up/Freezes whenever I try to paste something in the Response window.  The only way I have been able to clear the problem is by closing the browser and reopening the link.  The problem seems consistent no matter how many times I try or which thread I'm working on.

More to come as I continue to explore the new features and enviornment

I don't have enough time to to respond to all of your questions over my lunch break, but I can answer #4. It is located under the wireless services section. https://community.verizonwireless.com/community/wireless_services/4g_lte

I'm most definitely NOT a VZW employee. If a post answered your question, please mark it as the answer.

If you want to see a list of sections (Not how we are used to it, but a list still) From the opening screen, Click the drop down arrow next to Browse, choose PLACES.

Then on the next screen there will be a line with different tabs, All places, Spaces, Social Groups, continue right you will see an option with 4 boxes and the one next with three horizontal lines, click on there.

You now will see the sections. However the list changes order based on the newest messages so it is still a pain to use.

(Thanks Ann154 for reminding me on how to get there!)

Well I'm glad to see a few familiar posters found their way here.  But what about all those that aren't motivated to plow through all this non-intuitive crap?   Could this be designed to stifle all the recent much-justified posted criticism that was open to the whole world?  A guy could wonder.

It took me three days to beable to login to this site. I went throught this two years ago when they changed the site. Its a nightmare. Why do you have to read the post from the bottom up? This is backwards, or am I the only person who thinks they should start at the top.  My one main question is "How do I post a brand new question? I can reply to post but where do you go to post a new question about something. Thanks for any help you can give me.  I just hate starting over with something new and walking around in the dark, lol.

Minnie,

To start a new thread (Discussion on here)

Click on Create drop down menu and choose Discussion. Then choose the area ya want to post.

For those not into images and liked the old format you can try:

BROWSE>PLACES> choose the SPACE button then on the right side the next screen, choose the box with the three horizontal lines that get progressively shorter. You will see this. Albiet what I post is very clear, what you see is very blurry

Thanks Budone - I went back and tried it and did get in. I don't like the new set up at all, but I'm addicted to the Forum  lol, so I guess I don't have a choice but to stay and hang in there.

Are these PM's from before the switch or after?

The private messages from before in the Lithium platform were not transferred to this Jive platform version.

I'm most definitely NOT a VZW employee. If a post answered your question, please mark it as the answer.
