I am looking for a less expensive option thatn the lowest Family Plan with $60 access fee and 700 minutes. We rarely use our phones (the basic model) and never use anywhere near the 700 minutes each month. It seems a lot to pay over $80/month to pay for basic availability. Can someone help me find a less expensive alternative?

The only other plan below the 700min is a 550min plan for $59.99 for two lines. $50 for the first line. This is Verizon's loyalty plan and you need to be close to the end of your contract to qualify or ask to disconnect and they will offer it to you as a save plan. But that's as low as it goes on a family share plan.

It all depends on you
if your only using ½ or less of your min , you might thing about a prepaid play next time around
There are some Co. the offer 10 cents a min..
BUT check there covers area ..
And under stand that with most of the Co. there is no ( free phone )
Also most prepaid Co. do not offer free cell phone to cell phone calling , thus if your using at lot of Free cell phone to cell phone, calling a prepaid might cost you more.
You will pay about the same for a 700 min with AT&T / Sprint - Nextel ,, as your paying with VERIZON
NOW if your over 65 ,, you can get a lesser plan call 800 - 922 - 0204
