Is there a temporary disconnect option for Prepaid?

We live in the USA half a year and in Canada the other half. In an effort to downsize to two phones, we are planning on cancelling our Canadian plans. We just got my wife a Prepaid and activated it complete with phone number and all. After reading about the potential for massive bills when data roaming in Canada, we are now hesitant to use this phone up there for the six months. A least our other phone here is a Pay-as-you-Go non-smart phone so we'll use it in Canada occasionally to place calls and pay the 69 cents a minute. We'll get a pay-as-you-go in Canada for my wife.

My question then - can one temporarily suspend our service but since we're only gone six months keep our number and avoid a reactivation fee? It's pointless to pay $45 a month just to keep a number when the phone will be shut off. What is the activation fee?

Thanks.

If t's prepaid, there's not activation fee.

If you don't want to use it, just don't pay. You'll have 3 months before losing the number.

You can pay 5$ and it gives you one month to use it.

If it's a basic phone you can have the "Pay as you go" plan minimun payment 5$ a month, 25 cts per min. You can change the plan whenever you want.

If you lose the number you can always activated the phone again with a new number.

Hope this helps.

No. Pay as you go it just that. Use it for however long you want. Don't refill it. It will expire and you will have to reactivate and get a new number each time.

I appreciate the pay as you go part. But if we let payment lapse, what is the activation (reactivation) fee when we later want to start service?

Seems that currently, according to the website, there is no activation fee. This could be a promotion and could change in the future. If so it is $35.
