In a few months I will be traveling to Zimbabwe and South Africa. What are my service options for wireless calls, texts, data and Internet access?

Zimbabwe is 4.99 a minute to talk. 50 cents to send and .05 cents to recieve a text message. Data usage is pay as you go. 20.48 per MB Very expoensive
South Afircia is 2.89 a minute to talk. They have a value plan that is 5 dollars and reduces the rate to to 2.29 a minute
50 cents to send a text and 5 cents to recieve They have a global data package for 25 dollars and it gets you 100 MB of data.

Don't expect your verizon phone to work anywhere besides the United States. I just got a quad band Samsung phone that Verizon techs swore up and down would work, and am even paying for the international plan. Didn't work in Europe, or the middle East. You would be a fool to think any Verizon phone would work in Africa if they don't work in Europe at least. Been there and cell service is crappy at its best, even in the major cities. Then expecting a phone carrier with no good international ties, get an ATT phone and plan, and you will be much happier and have better support/service overseas.

duuright is incorrect. it does not matter if you have sprint verizon or tmobile. Your still using another countries service, so the actuall quality of the service while you are over there will be exactly the same. There are many many many people who have traveled internationally with no problems.

I have yet to meet anyone, in all my travels, that was able to use a Verizon phone (not unlocked) anywhere besides the United States, Mexico and Canada. Just my experience. If you have a blackberry, you might have a chance.

AGAIN you are not even using verizon service when you are in another country so what difference would it make if you have a sprint phone or a verizon phone? AGAIN I know plenty of people who have had great expierence over seas.
