International Plan

Active Duty military here just returned from deployment. I was assured that my plan would work in the country when I set it up. I have been billed for the international plan plus the regular charges. Verizon now hides behind the statement that they sent me text messages warning me about the charges I would incur. Naturally I assumed that this would be a standard text Verizon sends out every time I cross a country.  Why sell me the plan and not mention that it doesn't work in the country I'm deploying to? Is this how you treat deploying soldiers; sell them a plan and then screw them over? I demand a full refund.
