I have set ringback tones for my family contacts. they are all on my account, dont know if it makes a difference or not, they hear generic verizon ringback noise.

You set ringBACK tones or ringtones? 

Ringback tones are what all callers hear when they call you instead of the standard and easily understood ringing tone.

Ringtones are the sound you hear when your phone rings as someone is calling you.
