How to upgrade after an error?

I tried to upgrade my tablet, but keep getting an error when I install it. How can I install it without having to resetting it back to factory settings?

What tablet do you have, and what "upgrade" are you referring to?  What error message are you getting?

It's a LG-VK810, upgrading the software to kit-kat, the error is 0x13e.
