If I give my old Droid Incredible to my father how does he transfer his number and start service to it without going to a store?

Is your dad already a Verizon Wireless customer?

If not, there is no way to activate a new service account with an existing device without going to a store.

If he logs on to My Verizon, he can change his device from there with just the device's ESN number. (Printed behind the battery) Here is the link to swap the device:
