Go an early termination fee after being told I wouldn't be charged for changing plans

My contract was ending 1/13 and I went to verizon store to change to a prepaid plan on 1/4. During phone conversation with account rep. I was specifically told that I wouldn't be charged a fee because i was staying with verizon.

when i called about the fee of $155 for early termination (for 10 days!) the rep said it doesn't make any difference what I was told the "legal contract" allows for the fee. He  said the was no way to remove the fee without me returning to my old plan.

I have been a verizon customer for over 15 years an if this is the way I'm going to be treated from now on I will leave verizon and take quite a number of other customers with me.

yup look like you are stuck with fee but rep was right with "legal contract" ..if you were misinformed which do happen a lot still not a valid reason not to pay that fee or avoid fee ...sorry but that's how its is

It appears that you knew you were ending your post paid contract before it was contractually eligible to end so you do owe the fee. Switching to prepay is not completing your obligation despite the incorrect info you may have been told. If it's cheaper for you to complete the 10 days you might want to do that. Otherwise you do owe the ETF...even if it were just 10 days left

honestly "verizon store" should had disclosed that info before it was done from post pay to prepay .any time or most of time customer go to "verizon store" not a retailer store then there is no reason a call need to made to csr most of stuff can be handle in "verizon store"...but for now look like you have to cover that fee or make number from prepay to post pay back and avoid etf after ten days then you can do to prepay back. But I think it has to be done calling sales dept or @ "verizon store"

There are 2 separate issues here. Yes, if the rep told you that they were wrong. You need to report that. But you also admitted that you knew your contract was not completed when you made the switch....you were aware of when your end date was. It's a bit curious as to why you would switch to prepay just 10 days before your contract ended instead of waiting to do so since as you said...it was only 10 days. But whatever the reason may have been its irrelevant. Your signed contract supersedes everything (yes, including incorrect info) because it was an agreement you made and were aware of the terms associated with it. Those terms can't be changed by anything told to you verbally. If it's not part of the original contractual agreement then it does not apply. Not what you want to hear but it's the truth.
