Early upgrage with only 5 weeks to go on contract

I have been a loyal Verizon customer for many years (10+)and have had up to four lines on my account at one time. My Droid phone is due for an upgrade on March 8, 2014. For the last several months my phone has been acting up. Can't open my email program all the time, missed texts and it takes forever to start up. I called Customer Service today and asked if there was any way I could get an early upgrade and was told that my only options were to get a replacement phone through my insurance or to get a new phone through the Verizon Edge program. I'm not interested in either of these options and am a bit surprised that Verizon can't reward a loyal customer with a small request that isn't going to cost them anything as my contract will still be extended another two years.

NYLuvR,

Thank you for reaching out to us. I would love to be able to see what we can do for you. What Droid device do you have? Have you been able to back up your phone and then tried to do a factory data reset? I am very eager to hear back from you at your ealriest convenience.

I have a Droid Razr M. I have too much valuable stuff on my phone to risk doing a factory reset and lose something. All I really want is a small perk of getting an upgrade a few weeks early in return for being an extremely loyal customer.

That is not going to happen. However you can hook the device to your computer and transfer your photos, music and documents to a folder you create on your desktop. I do this frequently via USB hook up and I label the folder "Transfer Docs"

you can call it anything you wish, but I find it easier to just name them and number them 1-??

I also take all these saved files and such and burn to CD or DVDs and put them in my computer cabinet.

You can always re download the apps from the Google play store once you login from your device. It is quite easy to do.

Good Luck

Not a big deal to early upgrade one customer, especially a loyal customer.

With that said, word gets around. If people find out a customer received an early upgrade, they will also want one and then Verizon will start having to give everyone early upgrades.....which is a big deal.

Also in this day and age, loyalty in non-existant with most big corporations anymore. Which is unfortunate because everybody likes perks every now and again.

Just my 2 cents

Again, not interested in having to do all that extra work. I purchased a phone and it should work properly without me having to do all that. My question is simple, why can't I be given a slightly early upgrade as a reward for being a loyal customer and always paying my bills on time?

Unfortunately, you will not get any early upgrade.

You go and pay full price that solves your problem.

You port out to another provider, that solves your problem.

You wait it out with a broken or screwed up phone until March, that solves your problem.

You take the advice I gave you, because if you purchase another droid those apps are not going to be transferred. And I have seen really bad attempts to transfer contacts, music, photos and files when Verizon attempts to transfer from the old device to the new. And not just Verizon.

Because you pay your bill on time does not give you entitlement to extra perks. and your loyalty really does not matter.

Believe me I have been with Verizon long before they were Verizon wireless. (25 + years) and I always pay before my due date. But then I buy the devices at full price, I don't sign contracts for a cheaper phone.

Times have changed.

And it is always a good idea to back up your devices photos, music and documents on a regular basis. And once you get a new android device and log in with your Google account, the Play store will show all the apps you purchased and on the devices for you to grab again.

Its a little work.

Good Luck

Elector,

I have always had good luck with Verizon transferring all my information from an old phone to a new one and have been generally satisfied with their service.

I'll just limp along until March with a half-way broken phone and hope for the best.

Me too Elector. Just not looking to have to pay $649 for a new phone and I don't want to go with Verizon's new Edge program they were trying to encourage me to sign up for. I guess the thing that irritates me the most if that I know Verizon has done early upgrades in some cases if you talk to the right person. Oh well, come on March 8th!
