Does replacing a screen void the extended warranty?

I took my phone in to see what i could do about my faulty GPS. They said since i had the extended warranty, they would send me a new phone and I would send them my old one. So my replacement is already on its way!

Now, since I am the person on this planet with the ABSOLUTE WORST LUCK OF ALL TIME, today I broke my screen

So im not sure what to do. Should I just send my phone in as is? After, a verizon representative already agreed to replace it.

Or should i replace the screen and then send it in?

Or am I out of luck regardless?

What would happen if Verizon receives a broken phone? I don't want to get stuck with a bill for the replacement.

Would they be willing to return my broken phone to me if i give the replacement back?

I guess it all depends on the phone you are sending in.  Some are far easier and cheaper to replace than others.  iPhone 4 screens + Digitizers are far cheaper than a S4 screen.

If you do opt to replace the screen yourself, be wary of the screen part listings that are for the glass only.  Did this once for an iPhone 4, and it was near impossible to get the digitizer off the old cracked screen as it's adhesive/glued in place.  Ended up having to order the 2 parts assembled.

Replacing the screen will void the warranty. If they find out the screen was replaced, they will charge a damaged device fee of up to $299. Better to be safe than sorry and return the replacement they're sending you. If you have insurance, go that route instead. It's cheaper with a deductible of $169. If you try it out and send the broken phone, they will not return it after issuing the charge.
