Brian, I think you are right - though verizon was misleading in this sense (or maybe I just misunderstood).  When they said that after 6/28, you'd have the choice of share everything or tiered data, I thought that meant for current & new customers.  I just went to look at the plans on the verizon site and the only ones available (for new customers) are the share everything or prepaid.

i wasn't really sure, but based on the wording, i sort of assumed the worst for new customers:

You're not required to move to Share Everything but if you do, unlimited data will not be retained on your line. As a Verizon Wireless customer you have choices when you upgrade at discounted pricing. You can choose from a standalone data package starting at $30 for 2GB or a Share Everything Plan. If keeping unlimited is important to you, you can choose to upgrade and pay full retail price for the phone.

putting that line in there sort of came across as anyone else would not have that option.

In the 1980s, the carriers claimed that the reason why that they needed to make people sign contracts was to protect them for the "investment" they had into the equipment. now almost 30 years latter, VZW has decided that they have to force you into changing not just your equipment, but also into a more expensive plan. They are ripping off their customers by constantly forcing customers into more expensive plans, or now to have to pay full retail price (which is unusually expensive in price) for the equipment. Few can afford up to $700 for the equipment. Thats why they had the contracts to begin with was to make the equiment affordable.

I am also doing a complaint to the FCC claiming that VZW has violated their spectrum agreements because they are not providing a reasonably priced service for the spectrum that has been licensed to them.  They agreed to that when they leased the wireless spectrum from the American People.

If they continue with this path, I hope that they completely lose their rights to transmit from towers within the jurisdiction of the the USA.

yes....taking away the best network in the country will help. also "reasonable priced" is pretty subjective. when you have a superior product, you can typically charge more. i get that you don't like the new "options," but you don't have to use a smartphone or pay for data. we got by just fine only a few years ago with a good old flip phone. those plans are still cheap and you can get a nice one on ebay for $50. the only reason you would have to pay retail of $700 is if you A) have to have unlimited data, and B) have to have the latest, greatest, biggest, and best phone. there are a few smartphones for under $400 if you absolutely have to use an extensive amount of data. what do you do that requires SO much data?

In 1998 the supreme court ruled that the contracts were tied to subsidization of devices and that it must have diminishing returns.  Which what we have today on all contracts.  Verizon isn't putting a gun to your head and forcing you out of your plan.  You have a choice to move to another carrier after your contract expires(which you will be on the current plan), you can sign a new CONTRACT with them and either pick a new plan or keep the current one you are on(except the unlimited plan).  This is why the FCC will do nothing.  You have MULTIPLE choices.

They have not.  Have you read block C rules?

Mobi is a 3rd party reseller which Verizon sells their 700mhz spectrum use to.  Mobi hasn't done anything with it yet.  The "reasonably priced service" isn't about consumers, and about 3rd party service resellers.

FYI for tethering which people are claiming violates.  It does not say they can't charge for the service in the rules.  It works and it isn't removed from the phones.  It isn't a violation.  FTC would have done something long ago about it.  With the new shared plan they opened them up to everyone it's bundled with their new plans.

Google Wallet - has security concerns and it was put out there and people saw them.  Google has rectified some of them, but not all of them.  That allows whomever to block it without violating block c rules.

locked bootloaders - Same as above.

If they continue with this path, I hope that they completely lose their rights to transmit from towers within the jurisdiction of the the USA.

Not going to happen.  If they did violate the "block c rules" their 4G network would be down now because they wouldn't have the spectrum.  Which it is up and running at 700mhz.

Bravo!  You get it where as all these guys with the nifty CL badge under their names don't.  Verizon is basically playing a shell game.  They said one thing years ago and now they are trying slight of hand to make the public believe they are right and people that want unlimited data are greedy pigs.  The greedy pigs are at VZW HQ.

Like I said before.  Every time my contract expires I re-evaluate what's best for me.  Currently Verizon is, and if they are not I move on to what will work for me.  If no carrier has what I want I will drop my service altogether.  I let my cash do the talking.

they told me a year ago i would be grandfathered in to my unlimited plan and they did that. that never told me forever. they did away with unlimited a year ago. i got 2 years (past year and a year left) more of unlimited data than any new smartphone user did. i feel they held up their end. and that's only if i use my upgrade next spring. if i want to keep using my current phone, who knows how long i can keep unlimited? i've never heard them call anyone greedy pigs. i'm not saying these new plans are great, and obviously they aren't for everyone. but people need to get used to the fact that unlimited data is a thing of the past.

I just started up service about a week ago with 450 plan, does this mean I'll have to change to share everything plan. Because share everything plan is outrages. Who the hell is wanting to pay that?  I hardly ever use my minutes, data and text.
