Data packages

Morning,

My wife and I are both eligible for upgrades(on a family plan) and we are considering the droid. I know the droid requires a $30 data package. So if I were to get two droids do we only have to pay for one data package, meaning a $30 increase on my family plan, or two data packages, meaning a total of $60 more a month? Thanks for the info in advance.

If each of you are getting a Smartphone (Droid) then the charge is $30/month for each phone thus $60/month.

Hope this helps

Verizon is FORCING data plans on users who have no need, want, desire, or use for a data plan simply in order to squeeze a few more dollars out of us.  I have been a loyal VZW customer for over 10 years and have spent OVER $10,000 with them.  What does this mean to them?  Nothing obviously...they want more.  I have tried to purchase a G'Zone Brigade which is in NO WAY a smart phone...and has a terrible web browser to boot.  When I was a younger man maybe I could use a little 1" x 2" screen to surf the internet, but alas my eyes are not up to that now.  I have never, and will NEVER use my phone for that.  Verizon simply does not care.  If I want to buy a Tough water proof phone with a qwerty keyboard, they want another $10 a month out of me.  I have sent MULTIPLE e-mails to about 10 executives (All the way to and inculding ...Lowell C. McAdam, Mike Maiorana, Monica D. Harper, David Small, Charlie Flaco, Eileen Creeden..and can only get a response back from the "executive complaint line".  In other words, the men and woman that I have sent my letters to will never see them as they are all getting blocked.  I am getting nothing but the same ol story ...tough...buy it or leave.

THIS is how Verizon treats their long term customers.   I never thought that I would be just about BEGGING a business to let me continue being thier customer.   I am NOT asking for something more...or something special.  I simply want to buy a new phone and continue the service and agreement that I have now.  But they want me to pay for something that I WILL NOT use.  They even offered to "give" me 3 months of data plan free..but then charge me afterwards for it.  That is like giving me wheel chair for 3 months and then charging me for it...when I have no need, or use for it!!!

The internet is FULL of people complaining about this new policy and they say they are "listening to the customer feedback"?  NOT!  ALL of the feed back says that the customers do not want this forced down their throats.

ATT, Sprint and others are looking pretty good at this point.

Still waiting for a solution by the end of my contract.... Hurry up August!

I just wanted to provide this information for everyone who is concerned about the forced purchased of unwanted data packages.

VZW may not care about complaints from us, but they DO care about complaints from the governing body of the FCC

Now let me see if they remove this post also

Unfortunately there is no droid on sprint, but sprint offers a family plan for 109.99 a month giving 1600 minutes unlimited calling to any mobile phone on any network and unlimited data, texting, and gps, no roaming or long distance charges. This is a SERO plan so contact me if you are interested. The SERO plans required an employee email address and the last three numbers of there sprint id (CIN). Although I don't think that you can use palm or android devices with this plan. You can use blackberries though. Other than that there really are any restrictions but a two year contract.

Sprint has the HTC Evo 4G which is an android phone that was released a couple weeks ago. Sprint also has the Samsung Moment and HTC Hero (2 more android phones).

All carriers force you to purchace a data plan with smart phones so your rage against Verizon, specifically, is unjustified. Does it blow, yes but its not going to change regardless of how many people complain

MatM, Please re-read what I said.  I SPECIFICALLY stated that that the phone that I was trying to purchase was in NO WAY a smart phone.  The Brigade G'ZOne is simply a tough MIL-SPEC phone with a keyboard.  The Keyboard is the only major differance between it and the G'Zone Boulder that I currently have.  Matter of fact, they actually took away a few of the neater features that my phone has now like the electronic Compass.  And for that they want me to purchase a Data Plan.

If I were purchasing a Smart phone of COURSE I would need a data plan.  That is what Smart Phone are all about.  So my rage against Verizon specifically IS justified.  This is simply a strong arm tactic that Verizon is using to try and gouge more money out of its customers.

Again, I have no use, need or desire for using my phone to surf the internet on a 1 1/2 x 2" screen.  And I will NOT use it for that.  Oh, and you are going to LOVE the answer that they gave me, IN WRITING.  They want to charge me for a data plan to "HELP PREVENT USAGE CHARGE SURPRISES WHEN THE BILL ARRIVES" .  In other words, they want to charge me internet and data usage so I won't be accidently charge if I hit the wrong button.  LOL  I CAN'T make this stuff up!!!  This was signed in writing by Raquel Wilson of the Executive Relations department.

I have already filed my complaints with the FCC, FTC, BBB, and a few consumer Protection agencies.  I can't wait for August when my contract ends.  The only way we have as consumers to protect ourselves against this kind of ridiculas tatic to get more money out of our pockets is to take this sort of action and to give our business to companies that treat us fairly.  If we don't then they have no reason to stop this unethical practice of charging us for services that we DO NOT WANT.

As always, take care and be Safe Everyone.

Ron
