I am on an Alltel Smart Pack plan with unlimited tethering for $10!!! I know its a great deal but my current phone, Motorola Q9C, is outdated and shuts off all the time so naturally it is time for an upgrade. I need to know if I can keep this Alltel Tethering with a new Verizon Phone, it should be grandfathered in, right? I SURE HOPE SO!

If you retain your Alltel calling plan, but changes to a VZW device, you will need to use VZW data features, including tethering. Hope this helps!

To add on to what lee_lee and budone stated, if you are not on the Smartchoice/Smartpak calling plan, you will be required to select a Verizon Wireleds data package. The unlimited tethering will not be included in neither package. There is a feature separate for that. Mobile broadband connect is $30/month if you have a data package that is $29.99 or greater. If you do not have a data package but your device is mobile broadband capable, it will be $49.99. If you have a PDA smartphone/Blackberry and you are on the the Nationwide voice and email plan or you have a data package of $44.99, then mobile broadband connect will be $15.00.

Even with a Smartpack or Smartchoice Alltel plan, when purchasing a new phone, the data part of the plan changes to Verizon data, so unlimited tethering is lost.
