Had a very similar experience. Sadly the manager spewed the same lies as the sales rep. A used car salesman is definitely a step up. I understand to read everything, even if you ask questions , they still lie. Is it really too much to expect a little integrity at the stores?

There is no question Verizon is aware of these issues and also they don't care or it would be corrected. Make sure everything they say is documented in writing.

I didn't see anything listed regarding still paying activation fee? Restocking fee is listed.

Be aware that stores will say anything to sell you. Mostly lies.

Never take anything out of the store unless you are very sure you want it. 14 days to return it is always stated yet fees are never mentioned. Especially the activation fees.

Remember Verizon doesn't have any regard for it's customers. Just well rehearsed responses.

Here's an update to my situation:

Verizon Wireless has a upper tier dept called the Verizon Wireless
Correspondence Team.  I sent them a certified letter explaining what went on, what laws were broken by the Porter Ranch Verizon store and what I am now prepared to do if they don't take action. Within a week of the date they received my letter, I got a call. They were very apologetic. They insisted that they do not support this kind of sales behavior at the store level. They were very curious to know the details of what went on and who at the store took part in it.  They are sending me a FedEx return label to return the tablets. They are refunding all the tablet related charges, as well as holding the Porter Ranch store accountable to pay back the commission they made on the fraudulent sale, including some sort of additional investigation and action taken against the sales person and the manager that lied to support the sales person.  Oddly enough,  the manager perjured herself when she lied on the account notes about what went on with the sale when she was trying to defend the fraud.  The investigation determined that what she said did not in fact not happen based on a forensic analysis of the contract.   It was a straight out lie, just like the sales pitch.  There was no reduction in the monthly fees to compensate for the tablets, and even if there had been, by law - this has to be disclosed at the point of sale.

Verizon Wireless  at the corporate level is clearly a sound and ethical company that understands the law,  they just have some bad eggs at the store level where a climate existists in which uneducated, ignorant money driven sales associates don't even realize they are breaking the law. And this cancer seems to be infecting the lower level manangement as well.  I presume this will be the start of some changes and rules being made involving clear and full verbal disclosure at the point of sale as required by law.

There will be no corporate class action suit and no case or media blitz brough against the Porter Ranch store, at least not on my behalf.  If anybody out there was a victim of a dishonest sales pitch at a Verizon Wireless Store, send a letter ASAP to the follwing:

I got caught in this Verizon scam as well. All I really wanted was a new phone and the LG G3 looked like a good deal. Throw in a free tablet and it sounded like a great deal. I signed up at the local mall in NH and it only took about 2 hours.

The sales agent at the store didn't seem like she knew what she was doing really. I made it clear that I didn't want to increase my monthly bill. Somehow I ended up on the edge program with the "free" tablet. She said my bill would turn out to be the same after the activation fee.

Moral of the story, do not trust Verizon.

It's really too bad that the alternatives suck as bad as Verizon. If Sprint had better coverage in my area I would dump Verizon today.

i had a similar experience ... you shouldn't have to take your lawyer with you to get a phone  .. you would think the sales person would tell you everything ... I too was told how I could get a free tablet and there would no additional expense ... (my wife went in to have them reset something on her phone) .. I return the tablet when I went home and looked at my billing with in the 7 day trail period .. had the termination fee removed but the 1 time activation fee remains ... mines $40.00 .. I will write "wireless correspondence team" .. I had several things to list ...told my router/voice would be $10.00 being charged $20..00 .. signed up using my wife's company discount ... took 3 months to credit for it ...the account was in my name not hers ... don't go paperless check your bill ... calling Verizon Customer Service has never Been able to Help  ...thinks for this space for allowing me to vent

they scammed by 70 year old mother just in the same way. She went back to the store to return, got a measly credit. She doesn't even understand that she'll be charged $10 a month to rent a tablet that even stopped working today. She's going back to the store tomorrow to return the DEFECTIVE DEVICE and I have warned her they will try to make her pay a $70 restocking fee. Isn't it DECEPTION to sell someone something when that someone doesn't even know what they are buying? Especially a SENIOR CITIZEN! I am taking the sales-scam people to small claims court.
