Closing Bill Received 2 Months after Cancelling!

I have a huge problem here and I’m hoping someone from either someone from Verizon helps me or another customer with similar situation can point me in the right direction. To make a long story short I switched from Verizon to T-Mobile on January 5th 2016 and now I’m stuck with a bill for $758.16.

T-Mobile gives you 60 days to submit your closing bill so they can take care of cancellation fees plus any amount still owed on the phone. That seems pretty standard. I think all carriers are doing that now. That’s a 2 month time frame which sounds like plenty of time. Here are the events that took place in chronological order.

  1. January 5th, 2016 I started service with T-Mobile and cancelled service with Verizon.
  2. January 9th called when I was going to receive my closing bill. They said I would get it at the end of the month or first week of February.
  3. February 10th I had not received the closing bill yet so I had them send me a paper copy. I was a paperless customer so maybe that's why I didn’t receive it.
  4. February 16th I received by closing bill for $393.17. I called Verizon to verify the amount was correct. Seemed really low! The representative said it is correct. It’s my closing bill and it has my cancellation charges.
  5. February 16th I also submitted the closing bill to T-Mobile and they send me debit card for the cancellation charges. Up to this point everything is fine. Everything seemed to work out.
  6. March 8th I received a 2nd closing bill for $758.16 for the amounts owed on the phone. It is now passed the T-Mobile 60 day period and they cannot pay this bill for me.

I called Verizon upset on March 8th asking why I had gotten a 2nd closing bill and they said sometimes you just get the charges in two separate bills. I told them I cancelled service on January 5th. Why would you send one closing bill in February and a 2nd closing bill in March? Why when I called back to VERIFY on February 16th the representative told me that was it! The representative on February 16th did not advise me there is a 2nd closing bill coming! He said that it sir. That’s your closing bill.

Every representative I have spoken to keeps apologizing for this situation but none of them can do anything about this bill I have now for $758. I followed up every time I got a bill and I confirmed. There was no negligence on my behalf. The system is documented with all my calls and will now be seeking legal advice.

Here are the issues I see:

  1. Why does Verizon wait until the end of the billing cycle to send a closing bill?
  2. Why does Verizon not only wait for the billing cycle to send a closing bill but only sends you part of the closing bill. Nowhere on this bill does it say its PART 1 of two.
  3. Why does Verizon wait another billing cycle to send you the 2nd half of the closing bill? This is amazing! I cannot be the only one with this issue. This bill was received 2 months after i called to cancel!
  4. The representative on February 16th misinformed me. I called to verify the low closing bill and they said that is correct and it is your closing bill. Friendly guy but wrong information.

This was a family plan for 4 smart phones and a flip phone. No tablets. Billing cycle date is the 2nd of every month. The lines were ported over on January 9th, 2016.

Closing bill for 393.17 received in February was for billing period of 1/2 to 2/2 and cancellation fees. Bill received in March for 758.16 was for amount left on contract for 2 phones. The phones were not paid off. The amount of 758.16 did not include the 393.17.

When i received the bill in February for 393.17 i called to verify it was the closing bill and to make sure it was all i owed. The representative said yes. They did not inform me I would be getting a 2nd closing bill. I submitted that bill to TMobile and they took care of it.

March i get a new closing bill for $758.16 and now its too late to have TMobile pay this as well.

that make more sense now

rep was right it was final bill for service part only and you get it and you gave to tmobile and they pay you back

now march bill has device payment plan charges or remaining balance...

now only way to fix that is contact t-mobile ask them for solution cause you didn't get whole bill in one statement

I hope they can work with you to get it paid otherwise t-mobile save money not paying you how t-mobile will react or help you we don't know

good luck on that with T-Mobile

if any one here has another suggestion or solution do read those and follow if they are better

TMobile cannot help me since they gave me two whole months to submit my closing bill! Two whole months! That wasnt enough time for Verizon to send me a closing bill! I filled out a complaint with the Better Business Bureau and im seeking legal advise. If i cancel service on January 5th it is crazy to expect to receive a closing bill in March. Like i said i cant be the only one going through this.
