Cannot make or receive calls

Phone(s) were working fine today until around 4:30 pm CST in the city we live in. Two separate numbers on the same account. Account is not delinquent. Verizon's website states that the devices are connected and everything is fine. Devices are an iPhone 4S and iPhone 5S. When trying to dial out, it asks "please enter the number you are calling about" and then provides a menu tree for subpoenas, etc. (not support line). When someone calls us, it says that the line has been disconnected.

...Very very lost here.

Hi Christina,

Thank you for the quick reply! We have resolved the issue. The account, for reasons unknown, was "hot lined" for verification purposes. Once making an outbound call which automatically forwarded us to a Verizon service center and verifying our identity (after working one's way through the phone menu), the service was turned back on.
