Can Verizon deny me an Upgrade? I havent even used one yet!

Miembro

Earlier this year I joined my fathers 700 share plan. He let me join because I do not use many minutes. When I joined I activated an old flip phone I had laying around the house. I used it for awhile and then decided to switch to a droid x that a friend gave to me. Its screen is cracked but it was free so I activated it. Now recently I discovered that customers can get a Iphone 4s for .99cent or so, a 5s for 199$, or a 5c for 99$. I thought all my waiting had paid off because now I can basically get a free Iphone 4s with an upgrade. Seeing how Ive never bought a phone for my line from verizon at a promotional price it seemed simple. My town has a Verizon but there not a full grade store, more of a place to buy chargers( Gaffney,SC). My dad is the main account owner so he went to talk to them without me while I was at work. Im 25 fyi. He isnt very knowledgeable about these things. He didnt even have an explanation for why they denied me.   I was told that I would have to wait until mid July before I was elligible for an upgrade. This is outrageous. Is there any way that this is possible. I would greatly appreciate any answers. Muchas gracias

Did you do an Assumption of Liability to transfer to your father's plan? If you did, your contract might have been extended as part of the AOL. I would call and see if they can and will adjust the contract date, since it sounds like you haven't upgraded in a long time. If you have your old account number when you call, it will make it easier to see when you last upgraded. Also, make sure you are an authorized user on the current account, or have the account owner call and add you. ¡Buena suerte!

Just reread your post...I think I misunderstood you a bit. Did you activate a new line with a used phone, thereby forgoing the contract? Or did you have an existing Verizon number to transferred to a new account?

I would call customer service, because it sounds like your closest store isn't a corporate store, so they probably couldn't adjust the upgrade/contract end date anyway.

Ok, so did you activate a new line, or did you take a line that was already on the account? For example, did someone else on the account switch carriers or start their own account with a new number? If so, they may have upgraded before that, putting that line under a new contract, then taken the phone to a new account or sold it, and the line was still under contract when you took it.

When I changed my flip phone to the droid x I had to add wireless so my monthly bill is more now. Would that count as an upgrade?

No, not just adding data service. I would call customer service and try to clear this up with them.
