Can I upgrade my smartphone without selecting shared everything plan?

I'd like to upgrade my current smartphone to a new smartphone.  Do I have to upgrade to the Shared Everything plan as well?  The shared everything plan is too expensive, even though it's marketed at saving money.  I did the math and I don't want to be forced to upgrade to the Share Everything plan when I upgrade my smartphone and have to pay more for less service.

you sure can

for full price of the phone

if you have unlimted data and want to upgrade at a susidized cost, you will have to change

if your on a single line plan with 2gb, ect then i beelive you can upgrade and keep that

You can upgrade at regular price and still keep the plan you're on. Only new customers are forced on the Share Everything plan, because that's all we have, however, you will still be grandfathered in to your old plan, so the overall answer is yes, you will keep the plan you're currently on. Or I mean to your question, no you will not be forced to move to the Share Everything Plan.

Thats not entirely true -  In many cases you don't have to pay full price of the phone to upgrade.  The OP never mentioned what type of plan they are currently on.  I would recommend turning off auto-reply if thats how you have your account set up.

Ashton is incorrect. I had an unlimited data plan and just upgraded to a new phone (my droid died) and was switched to 2gb share with NO NOTICE!!!!! The only solution Verizon has offered me is to return the pay full price for the phone to keep my old plan. My solution is to say goodbye to Verizon.

Dude I work Customer Service. Are you sure you were switched to the SHARE EVERYTHING plan and not the 2 gb 30$ data package? The question was about keeping the same plan, not the same package, there was nothing mentioned about data in the question. No matter what if you upgrad you will lose unlimited data yes, but you are not required to switch to the Share Everything plan, you can keep your grandfathered price plan, but not the unlimited data package. I went through 4 hours of training on just this plan.

Also to add to your comment, there are 3 ways to keep unlimited data, getting a certified pre-owned device from customer service, buying from ebay or some other 3rd party source that doesn't use an upgrade, or buying a phone full retail price

Don't do it, they just screwed me, changed my plan without even telling me and now I am paying 30.00 extra a month. I have been on the phone for 4 to 5 hours with customer service.  So angry, and sorry but when I have called customer service I have spoke to supervisors and reps and I get different answers everytime but the bottom line is sorry can't help you we can't go back. REALLY I have 14 days to return the phones and that is just what I am going to do. Good Luck

It is hard to believe that they can change your plan without your knowledge and your acceptance.
