Calls from Strangers - My wife's number on Caller ID

Twice in two weeks I have received a call that appears to be from my wife's number (her name appears on my phone, as if she is the one calling me).  In both instances, the person on the other side has told me that I was the one who called them.  Is there a way to stop this from occurring? In both cases, the other person is saying, "Hello? Hello?"  They aren't attempting to elicit information from me. They seem as legitimately as confused as I am.  I understand what spoofing is, but this seems like some sort of advanced version of the practice.  In both cases, my phone was locked and in my pocket, so it was not a case of me accidentally dialing these strangers.

Just a suggestion. Login to your My Verizon account and review your call logs under your usage. Verify if the call was made or received, and to/from what number.

That's weird...

I don't think its necessarily and advanced form of spoofing. it sounds like a botched clone job to me.

chris and shark - Thank you for the replies.

I took Chris's advice and checked out my call log from Tuesday evening.

On my Verizon account, there were two events occurring within a minute of each other: (1) 6:13 PM, Call Type: Forward To Voicemail from my own number,  (2) 6:14 PM, Call Type: Inbound from my wife's number.

On my phone, I have only a received call from my wife's number (this was the call I received from the stranger, who said I called them).

It also is the case that my wife DID attempt to call me around that time, but when she called, she was sent directly to my voicemail.

Perhaps there is something funky with her account/number or both of our accounts/numbers.
