Caller Name ID question

I was looking at adding on Caller Name ID, but had a question about it.  If I have a number blocked, will it ring through, or does the app completely block the call?

There are a number of call blocking apps on the market now, but they all have the one flaw that a blocked number will ring once.  It's annoying.

When you say blocked, do you mean the caller blocked their caller ID (so it shows up unidentified?)

Or do you mean a phone number you explicity ed from calling you?

And are you on Android?  iPhone does not ring at all when a number is blocked.  You won't even know they tried to call you and you can block right in the OS without an app.  So you must be on Android.

There is still a free trial of the service I believe.  The best thing to do is just try it out and see.

The app most likely works like the third party apps.

FYI.  You can temporarily block a number via your account and it won go to your phone.

No, I mean that I added the number to a blocked call list in the app.

Hiya for example. I have a bunch of numbers blocked.  if one of them calls, the phone does a half ring before the app blocks the call.  It's been this way over multiple phones and seems to be a well known "issue".  To fix it in the past, I've had to root phones and use apps specifically made for root.

I see.

Having no experience with call apps on Android I can only speculate that the Verizon app will work just like Hiya does.  It seems as if the Android devices have to let the call ring through long enough for the information to be sent to the app and the app then intervenes and rejects the call.

So I would expect the same from the Verizon app.  It doesn't seem this app doesn't do any kind of switch level blocking.

On iOS the Verizon app works exactly like the third party apps like Hiya, but on iOS they all use the CallKit API which asks the app if the incoming number is in the list, and if it is then the operating system (not the app) blocks the incoming call at the OS level so it never rings.  That is only if that number is not already in your contacts or blocked at the OS level.

If you're trying to block a handful of numbers, use Verizon's system level blocking.  It won't even allow the call to go to your phone.

If you're adding spammers to a growing list, then I guess you might not have much choice.

But don't take my speculation.  Try it out.  I find that the service of identifying caller names is pretty helpful for identifying wanted callers for example a Mechanic that's not in my contacts might correctly identify as "ABC Auto" where I left my car earlier that day.  Almost any spammer spoofs caller ID and I'll get a random name that I don't know and I just assume they're SPAM, don't answer it, and figure they'll leave a messge if they're legit.

Without caller name ID, I was missing some wanted calls because I couldn't tell.

Just my 2 cents.

Good luck.

I use an app called Call Blocker. It is free on the Google Play Store. Once you add a number to it, and the number calls, it does not even ring, and simply hangs up on the  caller, or you can set it to where it sends the call to voicemail. It just shows in the notification that the call was blocked and the number that it blockef. You might also want to also check into Verizon's app Family Base. I believe they still have a free trial of that app also.

@unmaak Making sure you understand the features before adding them is very important. If you block a number while using the Caller Name I.D. feature, the caller will be sent straight to voicemail.
