First I must state I have been with Verizon for about 7 years, soon to be sprint.  I read some threads on the unlimited data plan removal from other people and am two extreamly distraught over the fact that I was not informed by Verizon that this was happening, which I must say is very unprofessional and very crooked business.  I too called and was on the phone for about 1.5 hours with a supervisor who could give two "poops" less if I dropped my plan and went with sprint. All hew kept saying was  90 percent of the customers don't even use 2gb of data and I said well if that is true why worry about taking the unlimited data feature away? And he could not answer that, for the reason that they  are LYING!!! They are just trying to make people pay more and more and more and overages are more and more and more now.  I am tired of this crap and am dropping my whole 4 phone family share plan BYE BYE CROOKS!!!!

Good luck with your new carrier.  I wonder where you will go when Sprint ends their unlimited data as well?

Actually, 90% of VZW customers DO use less than 2g, myself included. The move is as a result of the increase in customers as well as the increased weight upon the network. There are some people who use more, but they are using VASTLY increased amounts of data, causing the rest of us to have a slower network. This is to prevent people from abusing the network when they have wifi available.

Also, people that already have data are not required to have their data removed or changed. You were obviously informed poorly or just didn't understand the explanation. Not to mention, as a business it makes sense to move to the usage based pricing being that all other companies that are completion have done the same. Sprint will also be moving to 2g in the future, guaranteed.

With 3G phones, it was never an issue. 3G is so slow, I don't even bother downloading or watching video without wifi, which cancels out the issue of data limits.

With wifi, my usage is always under even 1 GB a month.

However, if I had a 4G phone, I know would be blowing past 2 GB because I wouldn't be on the ball and chain of wifi.

From reading forums and tech news and even TV news, the changes in data limits were discussed months ahead of time, so unless someone was a new customer, it's hard to understand how that was a surprise.

And, the grandfathering of those already with data plans.

As already mentioned, it's a necessary evil (data limits) and while I don't like them and they will eventually cost me more money, I wouldn't call VZW "crooks" (even if they sometimes edit my posts for political correctness).

I'd love to know how you know that what Verizon says is actually the truth.  What information do you have to show that 90% of their customers don't go over 2GB?  Are you perhaps a Verizon employee masquerading as a customer?  If you are and you aren't disclosing it you are a perfect example of how Verizon lies and cheats. And while you may not be an employee, I suspect many of the bloggers who support Verizon's positions on some of their worst practices are indeed just that.

I have an unlimited data plan and they want me to change to a plan that will require me to pay $60 MORE per month for a data plan that is NOT unlimited if I upgrade my phones! I currently use 0.011 Gigibites of data on average per month and I don't see me using the 2 they want to "sell" me for upgrading! I was informed that they no longer offer unlimited data plans, well fine give me the package with 2 Gs and limit me but don't try to charge me for something I have already! $60 PEOPLE!!!!! Who can afford that overcharge?????? And for something I pay for already!!!!!!! You would think that customers matter. In fact I was told that I could be grandfathered in and then less than an hour later they suddenly changed thier minds. Here is the way I would handle this. There are probably those out there who would abuse the unlimited data , I understand that. So you let people choose the 2 G package without charging them the extra $30 PER PHONE per month. If they want or need more than that , make them pay for the higher packages! Customers would be happy and verizon would be happy. I saw a woman who is sueing chevy because she was not getting the gas mileage that she paid for.......HMMMMMMMMM

You are NOT making any sense here. First of all, if you upgrade from a smartphone with unlimited data to another smartphone you CAN keep your unlimited data. If you do not make the upgrade through Verizon, the 3rd party retailer you are making the purchase from may not have all of the options available to you in THEIR system. This is THEIR problem, not Verizon's. In this case, you should be able to contact Verizon CS within 14 days after your upgrade to have your unlimited data reinstated. If you are switching from a basic phone to a smartphone, though, you are not grandfathered in with your unlimited data.

Second, you say that you "currently use 0.011 GB/month of data" and that if you make the switch from unlimited to a 2GB tier, you will be paying "$60 MORE per month". With the grandfathered unlimited data, you pay $29.99/month. With the 2GB tiered data and only using the amount of data you claim you use, you would only pay $30/month. This is ONLY $0.01 more per month, not $60 more per month. To reach that additional $60/month you claim you would be paying for data with the tiered plan, you would have to have 6000 lines each paying for the tiered data. With that number of lines, you should be able to come to an understanding with Verizon.

Let me  try to simplify it for you:

1. I bought my phones through verizon.

2. I pay $99.99 per month plus $10 for 2nd line. After surcharges and taxes I pay $147.50 for 2 lines with:

     A) 700 mins

     B) unlimited text

     C) UNLIMITED DATA

3. My phone is on the fritz so I need a new one and am eligible for upgrade on both phones. I do my research, pick my phones, and go online to order.

4. Verizon won't let me upgrade online unless I use one of the new plans as they no longer offer unlimited data. FINE EXCEPT:

5. the new plan is :

   A) $99.99 per month

   B)  700 mins

   D) unlimited text

   E) 2Gs of data (that is not unlimited) at $30 per month PER PHONE.

I am not a math whiz but let me try:

$147.50 for unlimited data on the plan I have. that is $99.99 per month plus the taxes and surcharges.

lets assume the taxes and surcharges are the same for the new plan (I am pretty sure they will be higher though)

$147.50+ $60.00 = $207.50    OMG you were right! since last month I used 0.011 GB of DATA I will b paying 6000 times what I should for 2 phones on the new plan!!!!!!!!  THATS WHAT I AM COMPLAINING  ABOUT!!!!!!

6. I call verizon and am told:

   A) first call: they no longer carry my plan I will just have to shell out the cash.

   B) 1st chat : they no longer have the plan but I can be grandfathered in.

   C) 2nd call: The salesman I chatted with made a mistake they cannot grandfather me in because the data I am using is a different KIND of

data (yeah right) just shell out the cash.

   D) e-mail to customer service: a 300 word e-mail that never answered my question it went like this Blah , blah ,blah, you've been a good customer,

blah, blah, shell out the cash.

I understand that verizon is in the business to make money. I have no problem with that. I am in business myself and that is part of the game. What I am saying is that long time customers should be treated with respect and dignity. They also should be helped out a little. I would not say anything if it was $10 a phone more per month but $30 per month? for a loyal customer?

Here is the way I treat my long time customers:

when I first started I charged $30 for my service per animal I treated. as inflation, cost of living, etc. went up so did my price

I am now charging $45 per animal I treat EXCEPT FOR THOSE ORIGINAL CUSTOMERS they are STILL paying $30! They probably would pay an extra $15 for my service if I asked them to, but they have been loyal to me and have given many referrals for other jobs and they are happy with my work and often give me a tip that amounts to as much or more than the $45 dollars I am asking of newer customers. They are happy, I am happy. It does not take a genius to see from this forum that people are tired of the price gouging!

Yes I will probably stick with Verizon I am happy with the service in my area and until now, pretty happy with them in general. However I will tell them how I feel.

I'm curious what phones did you upgrade from.

Verizon's current Family calling plans for 700 minutes include Talk for $69.98 for the 1st 2 lines. You would add $30/month for unlimited texting for a total of $99.98 for 700 minutes and unlimited texting. Unlimited data was not included in this amount.

The old 700 minute Family Talk & Text before they switched to account level pricing would be $99.99 for the 1st 2 lines with unlimited texting for both lines. Unlimited data was not included in this amount.

It seems that the extra $10/month you think you are paying for an extra line is for an old feature phone data pack which included 25MB for $10. Another possibility would be an old smartphone data pack which included 150MB for $15. I can't be sure as I obviously do not have access to you bill. I would suggest looking at your DETAILED bill in My Verizon to determine exactly what was included in your plan PRIOR to upgrading your phones, as I suspect you were not paying for unlimited data.

To do this, log into My Verizon and click on "View Bill". Choose a month prior to when you made the upgrade and then click on "Print Bill". A new window with a PDF file of your detailed bill will open up. Check it to make sure of what was included in your package prior to upgrading.
