Adjusting number of rings after a *71 forward (Google Voice)

I recently became a Google Voice user, and I'm utilizing the *71 no answer/busy forwarding feature to my Google Voice number (in order to use Google Voice's voicemail management features). The one downside is that when my cell number (not GV #) is called, and I don't answer, it takes another 2-3 rings for my Google Voice voicemail to start.
Is there any way to change this? I’m open to any suggestions.

Not sure if you ever found an answer to this, but you want to set your Google Voice account to "Do Not Disturb" status. It will go directly to voicemail with no rings.

Ah... that's an idea! So my logic tells me that this would be useful if I were just using Google Voice as a voicemail service (and didn't want text transcriptions texted to you), right? Hm... not sure if that loss of functionality is worth it for me. Just my initial thoughts...
