Why are new customers and current customers new lines getting free $35 activation but only select basic phone customers getting free $30 upgrade fee? I have had my current Droid X since 2010, my wife her flip phone from 2012, and she gets a waived upgrade fee if she goes to a smartphone? Love being valued as the owner of the account since '96

It's the whole "dangle the carrot" effect. Attract them and bait them. It's just like this new garbage with financing your phone" to avoid being in a contract. Make money hand over fist.

If you are the account owner, then YOU got the waived upgrade fee. YOU are financially responsible for the line and therefore reap the benefits of any waived fees.
