No CSR can wave the fee for some future purchase.  I doubt they can wave it at all.  They all charge the fee, except most are more than Verizon.

hey rushmen just a FYI verizon doesn't have agree to anything that is told to you. Someone can't say hey i'll give you an iphone for free and then be held to it. Verizon sometimes needs to protect itself from itself

This agreement and the documents it incorporates form the entire agreement between us. You can't rely on any other documents, or on what's said by any sales or customer service representatives, and you have no other rights regarding Service or this agreement.

I, too, was surprised when I looked at my bill this evening.

First of all, I was told through the Verizon chat line that I would be able to obtain a "basic" phone for "FREE" based upon the fact that I had been a customer for over two years.  I learned upon going to the store within 24 hours that this was NOT the case.

It was when I opened the bill this evening that I discovered the $30 upgrade fee.  This was NEVER mentioned.  Obviously I should have read the fine print prior to signing!?!  It certainly would have been nice IF the sales rep would have reviewed the charges.  Of course, this same rep also told me that I would be able to transfer some data from one phone to another with no charge; that was also not the case.

Is there a "TRUTH in Selling Act?!?!?"

Apparently, Verizon is looking for ways to raise more capital because their current infrastructure cannot handle the amount of bandwidth needed to carry data for smart phones. To upgrade their system, they need MILLIONS of dollars to stay competitive with the competition. Streaming music and video, sending billions of text messages with picture attachments, internet searches, etc. is dragging down the hardware and servers and Verizon is not capable of handling demand. Verizon is having a difficult time keeping up with smart phone technology advances and demand, so to raise capital for improvements, they have changed their usage plans and created fees to pass along to their customers. Everyone should stop using their phones like toys... and use them as phones. Then Verizon wouldn't over sell features they cannot sustain.

You should demand that Verizon install you as CEO immediately so you can show them how it's done.

A) As you say you should read the fine print.

B) This was announced MONTHS before they instituted it. In made every major news source.

No one to blame but yourself. Go with another carrier. Oh wait they ALL charge upgrade fees. Quit expect something for nothing. So you paid $30 for phone that costs at least $190 even for the most basic phone at full price and you're complaining about that? Getting at least a 85% discount is something to complain about?

As Brian said, the fee has been around for awhile, but I also understand where you are coming from. For them to never tell you about the fee, and to have them stick it on the 1st bill without telling you is a bit underhanded. They should have told you that it would either be paid up front, or put on the 1st bill.

Is there anything on the paperwork that you got with the phone that points out that the fee will be put on your 1st bill?
