I have been a Verizonwireless customer for many years, and now when I renew for another 2 years and purchase a new phone, there is a $30 renewal fee. They are calling it an upgrade fee. What kind of way is that to thank and appreciate a renewal customer? Is anyone else disgusted at this? Is there a way to get around it? Are other phone carriers getting away with this, too?

Sprint, AT&T and T-Mobile has had an upgrade fee for years prior to Verizon Wireless adding theirs.
The Verizon Wireless upgrade fee has been around for almost a year and a half now. http://news.verizonwireless.com/news/2012/04/bl2012-04-11.html
I'm most definitely NOT a VZW employee. If a post answered your question, please mark it as the answer.

That's upsetting to hear. I guess I'll keep my phone, not commit to another 2 years and just shop around. Thank you for the information.

Hi NNA,
Don't go. We would never want to see you leave. I know no one "fee" likes the word fee! I myself would not want to pay for something and get nothing in return. The $30 upgrade fee comes with some great benefits. You will receive free Wireless Workshops http://bit.ly/oc2kd5 , Recycle Program http://bit.ly/GGnDDC, and setup of your device from start to finish.
Thanks,
