Do I need to have the childs phone present to set the controls?

I live 4 hours away, but would like to restrict his activity at night especially. Do I have to have access to his phone?

I understand the importance of monitoring your child's device.  Are you referring to FamilyBase controls? Are you looking at setting up usage restrictions?
