Why does the message web app show 40 unread texts?

When I used to use the messaging web app in Chrome, it would show that I have 9 unread texts. This was wrong, as I didn't have any unread texts. Fine, I got used to 9 being equal to 0. But now...it shows that I have 40(!) unread texts. Is there anyway to make this count reflect my actual unread count (usually 0)?

Phone: Galaxy S7

Text app: Messaging+

Thanks.

ianoble, sorry for any confusion. Verizon Messages is an additional companion text messaging application that we offer. As a result, you will need to check the native text messaging application, as well as the Message+ application for any new text messages.
