Verizon adds advertising to picture messages

I discovered when I send a picture to an email address, verizon adds the following text to the message:

This message was sent using the Picture and Video Messaging service from Verizon Wireless!

To learn how you can snap pictures and capture videos with your wireless phone visit www.verizonwireless.com/picture.

Note: To play video messages sent to email, QuickTime 6.5 or higher is required.

This is highly annoying. I called customer support and was informed that I cannot turn off the service unless I have a smartphone (I have an enV2). I get the feeling that those with smartphones are using an app of some sort - but my phone and I are stuck with the spam.

Make no mistake - this is an unsolicited advert attached to my picture messages using a service I already pay for. Photo messages sent to Flickr, Blogger and other services now have this annoying spam attached to it. If I have to go to my computer to edit the message before posting, I can just download the image from my phone and cancel the unlimited bandwidth plan as it's now USELESS.

We pay extra for unlimited bandwidth - I do not want Verizon's advertising attached to my messages.

That's a butch of bull. They have the nerve to use what you are paying for to advertise. Smh,  they need to be reported.

This practice is very similar to the way that Verizon places ads on its default WAP portal and requires you to pay for the data that is used to download those ads.  First, they make money off you (at whatever rate based on the plan you use) when you download the ad, and then they make even more money because the advertiser paid them to show you the ad!

Given that they clearly need SO MUCH MONEY to make their network run, clearly they need all the free advertising they can get.  Can't you tell that these guys are strapped for cash?

It's not when you send to another phone it's when you send a picture from your phone to an e-mail address using picture texting.  I send photos from my phone to my e-mail all the time and get that message every single time.  If you send a picture message to your e-mail address on the computer you will see what we are talking about.    Mary

I send picture messages to email address all of the time. Both to corporate and web based, like yahoo, live, gmail.

And I do not have that problem.

I wonder if is is a feature set issue that is causeing the problem.

My phone is an ENV3 and when I send to my aol mail I get the message everyt time and same with my yahoo address and my gmail address, get it at the top of the e-mail in the body.

I also have a road runner address with time warner I use for a yahoo group and when someone sends from there blackberry as internet e-mail from one of those phones to the group the mail says something like this was sent from sprint or something like that and has an add.

I just tried my husbands ENV2 and same add in all my e-mail addresses so maybe it's just the LG phones or something.  Here is the exact message I get in my e-mail when I send a picture text.   Mary
