"Useless" because after paying for it for months and months, the first time I needed to restore something, I discovered that Verizon (somebody) made a decision to limit how much of my data was backed up, and that was not made clear when I signed up to pay for this service. I paid for 500GB of storage, why would it not have backed up all my messages?! I'm currently using about 1.5GB, backing up all of them would still barely have put a dent in that 1.5GB.
Thank you @tikibar1, I will have a look at this SMS Backup and Restore. I've looked at write-ups on it before and it seems pretty well liked. It's too bad that I pay Verizon a lot of $$ and they cannot do better than the free stuff.
