Not able to receive texts from NON VERIZON carriers

Hello all! Just looking for some help...

I'm a new Verizon customer. I ported my old number from Virgin Mobile two days ago to my new Verizon phone. Everything works fine, except I can not receive texts from people outside the Verizon Network.

Suggestions? Any one have similar issues? Is it Virgin's fault?

Pull the battery from the phone while the phone is on. After that turn back on dial *228 hit option 1.   If this does not work call verizon wireless you will need to have tech look at it (possible port lag)

Whenever you port a number, for the 1st 48 hours it's possible for some calls and messages to still get routed to your old service provider thus missing the call or the text. This is normal and fixes itself. You should be fine soon.

Agreed with zimpleguy. There can be a bit of lag with the way messages/calls gets routed. So *228 option 1 as suggested and wait another 24hours. Also, you want to absolutely make sure your old cell phone is TURNED OFF. Having it on can also create this problem.

I was a Virgin Mobile user and had this same problem.  I had a pre paid service, I could text anyone as long as the person was on a contract phone, or were a Virgin Mobile user but could not text a person on a different carrier if they were a pre paid user . After two months of going around in circles I got a new number from Verizon and that solved the problem.  I later found out Virgin Mobile blocked carriers using a pre paid cell. If you have tried all the other answers and your not able to text someone from a pre paid I would just get a new phone number.  Hope this works for you.
