I keep getting calls from numbers I do not recognize, when I answer there is no one there, they never leave a message and when I try to call the number back it says it is disconnected. All of these calls have the same area code as me. Right now, I've blocked all calls coming in that are not from my contacts, but what is going on?

I would guess it is probably a crank caller who dialed your number out of the blue or some one who may have gotten your phone number. Either way, you can block that number by contacting Verizon Wireless or go into My Verizon to do so.
