I am trying to figure out a way to see the actual conversations of the text messages does anyone know a way to retrieve this information.

You can do this on the phone only, unless you have deleted the messages

only way to view a text message is if it is a matter with police to get subpoena and any wireless dept has legal dept that can subpoena records.  Otherwise it is a privacy issue and cannot be accessed through other means
