Erasing Text messages?

For some of my contacts, I have accumulated hundreds of text messages/contact.  When I hold down on the persons messages it asks if I want the entire thread deleted.  I say yes, but if there are over 400 messages for that one person the phone usually crashes before it can erase anything.  Is there anyway to delete long threads of messages without having to go in and delete one message at a time??

Do you have the option to "Force Delete" the entire thread?

Dont erase while in the thread. In the list of people you have texted, choose and hold down your finger on the person you want to delete until a menu shows up. Delete from there.
