I have been searching for my answer on the internet all night, and have decided that asking for it would be the best way to solve it. Anyway, as the title says - Would it cost extra to update twitter via a text message? I have a Connect Family SharePlan with unlimited texting and data, which I figured would cover any additional costs. However...
On twitter it says we have to text to the shortcode 40404, which according to Verizon's FAQs is a short code that falls under premium text messaging, which may have additional charges.
As of right now I believe that since it is only a SMS message there will be no additional fees, but I wanted to make sure before I started tweeting through my phone.
You will probably get charged for premium texting. I don't know what type of phone you have, but since you have unlimited data, you can log into Twitter's mobile site. You can also download Tiny Twitter which works with just about any phone. Do a search for Tiny Twitter and you will find it.
Sorry Doc, you are wrong on this one....I "tweet" to 40404 and it counts as an SMS message, plain and simple. Same for FB (32665) and a couple of others. I also get news and weather updates from local radio stations sent to my phone - all SMS and included in the unlimited texting plan.
Of course, with the unlimited data, the apps Doc mentioned are options too, if you prefer to go that route.
Así que dzechman, tweet all you want, through an app or a simple SMS to 40404!
