Can recieve but not send text

I have a LG VX8300. I just switched my share plan to unlimited texting. I have never sent a text with this phone. My families phone will send text messages but I can only recieve. What can I do? I have had this phone for 3 years and since I did not pay for texting I never tried to use this option. If it matters I just changed our plan 2 days ago to unlimited.

hey gw, if you have had the phone for a while, you may want to do a program update from your phone, first off...to do that, from your cell phone, dial *228, then choose option 1. this will update the programming on your phone and also your preferred roaming list(thats the list that tells your phone where the towers are in your area to give you better reception on your phone) also make sure when you do this that you are in your normal home calling area.
Also, call us at *611, or 800-922-0204 and we can check your acct to make sure that texting is a feature that has been added to your plan on our system. its possible that it may not have added properly in our computers when you switched your plan over. 😃
