The only reason Google bought Motorola Mobile was to get their patents. Because of the repetitive lawsuits with Apple and Windows mobile that Google was dealing with, they purchased Motorola Mobile to, for a lack of better terms, return fire as well as own the technology. But as stated, Google is very focused on letting Motorola continue to function separately.
