Are your apps being backed up as well? Corrupted apps can cause it to lock up as well. GEt one more replacement, and use it without logging into your gmail. Get the new versions of the apps if available. I know it's a hassle, but an android phone is more like a computer and it does require maintenance as does a regular computer.
But the phone acting up right when you add apps sounds like corrupted apps, or those apps may not get along with gingerbread all together.>Post edited to comply with VZW TOS.<

If the manufacturer of the phone won't help you, why do you expect verizon should?

Because I entered a legal binding contract with them stating I would pay them a monthly fee for service on three cell phones. One of those phones is a lemon. I would expect anyone that I pay to provide a service to keep their service and their equipment running up to par. I can't use the service I'm paying for when the equipment renders itself inoperable when trying to use it. My daughters non smart phone was a lemon, and VZW gladly swapped it out for the same model twice before just letting her pick a new model. Seems that on the smart phones they are not so willing to provide any customer service to their loyal customers.

The Fascinate was updated a while ago, up to Firmware Version 2.3.5 . I cannot remember the actual date...

I wouldn't accept a refurb so I ended up paying full retail for a new phone and got the heck away from Fascinate

That $ucks you had to buy a new phone, but i understand your frustrations. For me, I refuse to pay for a new phone for an issue that was clearly caused by a poor firmware update. In no way should the user be responsible for eating that cost, this is 100% Verizon's problem and they should be doing something to resolve this.
