Data plan for 4G LTE phone

I have a unlimited data plan for $30 per month now.

If I upgrade my phone to 4G LTE phone, do i need to make a new data plan contract or pay addition charge for 4G service?

  It was my understanding that you would not be charged any more for the data plan, and still have unlimited data because you are not changing your plan, you are just changing the phone. Again, that was my understanding.

That's correct, as long as you do not make any changes to your data plan, you will still have unlimited data.  It's a little confusing if  you order online because they change the name of the data plan and say your old plan is not compatible with your new phone however, the unlimited option still pops up (with a warning that if you change it, you will not be able to change back).  If you do it in store, I would reiterate several times (almost to the point of being annoying) that you still have unlimited data because you were grandfathered in.

Also remember that the 4G hotspot price could be different depending on the rep you have..  But as for just the regular unlimited data, the answers that you received from the others above is completely correct...  Change shouldn't change.
