why are some of my photos dubbed "unsupported file" when I attempt to organize them into an album (or do much of anything with them)? They seem to have a little red symbol in the lower left corner of the image when viewed via Gallery. For a moment I thought it might be because they were photos taken by a camera, as opposed to the phone, but that doesn't seem to be the case.
Thanks for any advice about photo management on this Samsung.

Is the "little red(?) symbol" actually a Google Chrome symbol?
If so then these images are Google+ Photos stored in the cloud and you have to logon to Google+ and manipulate them there.

The G+ logo is red, that makes more sense.

On my phone this is what I see in Gallery. It's possible that the OP is seeing something different. JohnWN if this is not what your see can you take a screen shot and post it? What do pictures stored on Verizon (Backup? Media Storage?) look like in Gallery?

Ah, that is the Picasa logo. They are also owned by Google and will back up your pictures. Personally, I can't stand how it basically makes a double of every picture in my gallery and always disable that backup, so I had forgotten about that.

Yes, the backup aspects of Android do seem a bit all-encompassing. When I set up my new S III it quickly synched up with my Google/Picasaweb gallery albums. That encouraged me to clean up those files. Thanks for that tip! Would that be a Backup Assistant, a camera, or a gallery setting?
I find the G+ synching a bit intrusive, too. I think have I restricted it down to just my circles.
Thanks!

I think it is a sync setting (main phone settings, accounts & sync, under your google account).
