Wi-Fi Network Password Not Accepted

I'm in an AT&T area and using a 2Wire Wireless Router.  Used my home wi-fi for the first time for my phone.  I entered the password to my router and I thought it worked.  I tried to go to YouTube and my wi-fi now says "Authentication error occurred".  I tried several times to enter and no such luck.  So I went to my PC and re-set my password to the router.  Now when I want to go to YouTube,  my network name comes up and the word "(unchanged)" in the password field.  I press Connect, and I get "Incorrect Password".  I enter my new password and I get again "Incorrect Password".

Do I need to re-set my router password again?  Don't know what to do.  Would like to use my wi-fi so I don't use up my data quickly.

First off turn off your modem and your router and your phone. Going on assumption you changed the password to your router correctly write it down exactly as entered. (uppercase and lowercase and numerials if you used them)

Now in this order turn on your broadband modem, make sure its fully up to working order. Then turn on your wireless router and again make sure its fully cycled up before you turn on your phone.

Now assuming your routers password is correct, your device should see your ssid of your network. If its found click on connect, then when it asks for the network key enter it exactly with no spaces etc. Then click ok etc.

If the password is correct you should have no problem connecting. Please note if your phone was upgraded to Jelly Bean OS you may have to buy a new up to date router to access your network. You may want to stop at a public wifi to see if you can connect I use my auto dealer wifi, or my friends wifi. If you can connect everywhere else the router at home may be your issue.

Good Luck

Sorry for not posting sooner.  After resetting the password twice and still not being able to connect the smartphone to the home wireless router for wi-fi, I did some more searching.  I found a post mentioning using the pw that's near the serial number on it.  It worked!

Thank you!

I spent 45 minutes with tech on my new Galaxy s5 with no results.  My password kept coming up incorrect.  Figured it out this morning on my own.  DO NOT enter the password for the router.  Take a look at the info that came with the router and see if there isn't a Wi-Fi password.  On my Motorola Router/Modem Combo, the password was 20 characters long.  Hope this helps

There's a password that's used to access the router from its IP address to make configuration changes.  And a password that allows you to connect to WiFi.  It you hunt around in your router webpages (it's usually on a Wireless page), you should be able to change it from the awful 20 character long password to something more manageable.

In the case of the Motorola modem/router combo the password to access it is Admin/Motorola

The address is 192.168.1.100 after you access it, the password must be changed as with any new router set up.

However you are correct in that under the wireless settings the SSID can be changed from that gobbly gook  network name to one of your own design.

It is preferable to assign individual IP addresses for wireless devices since it will look and hook for that address and it seems to be much more stable. Especially with cell phones and tablets.

Good Luck
