You have to pay for the privilege to upgrade your phone by paying a $30 fee. The put a data cap on your data usage to try to suck even more money from you. Your locked into a contract. And god help you if you want to change your phone to get rid of the bloatware that they put on it, that you can't remove.

Yes, I also have to pay a monthly fee for the privilege of being a Verizon customer.
Go figure, you have to pay the fees a business sets if you want to be a customer of said business.
With all that said, if you want cellular phone service you should always go with the provider which best fits your needs/expectations. Maybe a different provider would be a better fit. One which doesn't charge you any fees with which you don't agree.
