So, I've been hearing a lot about voice over LTE and was wondering if my galaxy s4 supports this when Verizon begins rolling out at the end of this year or next year. Sorry if it seems like a simple question seeing as almost all phones Verizon sells handle 4G LTE data but I just thought I'd ask to see if anyone knew about the upcoming volte technology.

They will sell a variation of the  Galaxy S4 smartphone , with the commercial launch of the advanced 4G version of the smartphone.

The rollout will start with the Korean LTE model receiving support in August --

-per Samsung.-(6-17-2013)

The "NEW"  S4 will use LTE-Advanced 4G technology, a huge upgrade from conventional 4G called LTE, or long term evolution. LTE-Advanced offers data transmission at up to 2X the normal 4G speed.

For instance, a  movie download that takes 3 minutes with conventional 4G would take slightly more than 1 minute, with the new standard.

That would be a boom for users that had to give up their unlimited data plans in order to upgrade to this device.

These phones will be powered by Qualcomm chips. May be the same chip,  (hardware) as in our USA based current S4 or S3 device.

But it looks like we have to wait too see if just a VZW OTA SW will hit the "older" devices as an upgrade for this new LTE,  or we just have  purchased them too soon

Just nabbed this off the web.

The current S4 will play nicely with LTE-A.

It'll be a while before Verizon has LTE-A - we will probably have a different phone than the S4 by then. The AWS spectrum is going to the big markets where they need additional capacity. Once more phones get unloaded on to AWS, those speeds will slow just like we have seen with the LTE rollout over the past 2 years. Then eventually you'll see the upgrade to LTE-A.
