If you don't see the option when you pull the curtain down, there's a second way to change the USB mode.

While the USB is connected, go to Settings > Developer Options

(Developer Options will be near the very bottom of settings. If it isn't present, you can make the option appear by going to Settings > About Phone, then tapping "Build Number" seven times)

Once you're in the Developer Options menu, turn on the "USB Debugging" switch, then scroll down until you find the option set to "USB Charging" and change it to "File Transfer" or "Media Transfer"

While on your home screen, swipe down from the top of the screen and it will pull down your notification curtain. You should have a bar there that says USB Charging. Tap it and you can change it to File Transfer or Media Transfer.

Pull down the phone's notification shade, tap where it says USB Charging, and change it to File Transfer.

When I do the full pull down, there is no USB charging item to change. The icons I see are wifi, location, vibrate, auto rotate, Bluetooth, airplane mode, mobile hotspot, do not disturb, u. power saving, flashlight, mobile data, power saving, private mode, smart view, NFC, sync, always on display,  s finder.

It's not an icon, it's a notification.  See if this helps:
