Text messages not sending

Has anyone experienced not being able to send test messages on their Android Galaxy S3?

It happened to me two weeks ago...that's when it first started. I sent a msg to one of my friends, and right away I had the notification saying that msg sending failed.  I tried texting several of my other friends, and same thing happend--sending failed.  However, some of my friends replied back to me, which means that some of the texts I sent went to some people.

Fast-forward to the present (like 5 minutes ago): same issue happened.  I typed in a text, pushed the send, and got that superfun icon of the envelop with an X of it on the top left corner (meaning that text sending failed).  Bummer! What is the deal?!  I hate to keep turning my phone off and on and off and on.  It's a big pain in the neck.  I also thought it was my tasks screwing up my system, so I employed the task-killer. Still didn't solve the problem.

HOWEVER, not sure if this has any importance, but I do remember that when I try to send multilingual messages, that's when the problems of texting start.  For example, I just sent my friend happy birthday wishes in three different languages in the same text message, and that's when the texting issue started!  Grrrr. I'm just frustrated.  Is it Verizon? Is it the Android? Who's responsible for this issue?

My guess is it has to do with the different character sets for foreign languages.  Some may not be typical/simple 8-bit ASCII. If so, some systems may cut your message length in half or require MMS or just choke and refuse to handle the message.  Crossing different wireless carriers' boundaries can introduce a different set of requirements.  Not all gateways behave the same.  Also the texting app that you are using may be at fault.  SMS is not a one size fits all messaging system that people would like it to be.

Try a different text messaging app.

Send the different languages in separate messages to see which one (if any) is refused.

Use no special characters if a foreign language message. (???)

Also try sending 70 character or less messages to see if that helps.  As I stated above some foreign languages use 2-byte characters and cut the total available characters/bytes for a message in half.
