Stay Away from Samsung Galaxy S4!

In less than 3 weeks the screen failed due to sun exposure. Cannot get a replacement during warranted period due to "mechanical" damage. No glass damage. Small crack visible in the AMOLED screen under the glass. Caused in my opinion by thermal expansion. The phone is flimsy at best and cannot withstand any torsional load. Phone was in an Otterbox case from the time it arrived at my home. I knew better than to get an untested early release product but I figured it was a good product because of the Samsung name. I wrote a letter to Samsung I don't know if they will do anything but it's worth a try.

Okay, well um if it failed due to sun exposure, then it's a damage on the phone and the warranty doesn't cover it, also since there was a small crack, that also would void the warranty. Kind of crappy that it's because of the plastic casing though

Sorry dude, I'd recommend insurance next time.

Had insurance Asurion would not cover it. Claimed mechanical damage was not covered in the Verizon warranty period.

It would have to be sent in for "evaluation" and would charge me 300.00 for another phone if they deem the damage from something else. Like sitting down with the phone in your pants pocket. The S4 cannot take that stress. My Razor Max sits on the patio table all day long in the sun and it's fine.

LOL you damaged your phone with sun exposure? How is that possibly samsung or verizon's fault?

You shouldn't leave expensive electronics out in the sun all day, PERIOD, no matter what they are.

❤️ my S4.

Hmmm Asurion replaces phones when there wet or dropped just pay the co-pay....they won't give you a FREE replacement and well Leaving a phone sit in the sun is the same thing technically as dropping it in water accidental damage that requires a co-pay.....Best Of Luck.

Verizon is rectifying my trouble and I commend them. I am however selling the replacement and getting a Razr Maxx HD.

Samsung has the highest specs but the hardware is fragile. The HTC One would also be a good choice. I now have a Razr Maxx and it's been dropped left out in the sun and in my truck at 130f and has never given me trouble. Right next to my 4000.00 flir camera which also gives me no trouble with being exposed to heat. I have contacted Samsung and they are also willing to repair the phone if they deem it is a factory defect for free. Google S4 screen failures and see what comes up. Lots of cracked screens without the glass failing. Overall I am happy with the customer service I have received from both Verizon Wireless and Samsung on this matter.
