They will not even respond to this post for some reason Verizon does not want to help with this issue. Probably because they have no solution at this time. When they do have a solution you will see all of the moderators responding to these posts telling you to update to this or whatever. I am so frustrated by this update my phone was great and I was so happy with it now it just sucks.
Verizon will tell you that the issue is caused and owned by Samsung. However in the past when waiting for a new OS release we have been told it is because all releases have to be received by Verizon, then they apply the code changes they want in place (no tethering apps for example), then Verizon releases it.
This time I am told by Verizon that Samsung released it and they (VzW) has no responsibility.
I called every day for a week for an update. On the 8th day I requested a replacement phone. I was told that this may not correct the issue, but everyone who has posted saying the replaced the phone has been successful in restoring functionality.
They tried to ship it standard (3-5 business days), I requested to speak to a manager. After a few minutes of silence, the CS rep returned (not the manager) and said they would waive the overnight fee.
Got the phone today and will run My Backup Pro this evening to save apps, data, and settings and move everything to the refurb that does not have the last update applied.
I expect to be operating with 4G inside my house AND mobile data in short order this evening.
VZW also says they have to test the new software thoroughly and then release the update....but what happened on this last one with the testing thoroughly?
Replacement phone received (re-furb, of course)
Firmware is 4.1.2 (from Feb 2013).
Apps downloaded from backup. Restored home screens with My Backup Pro.
Everything is back to normal.
4G connections, fast mobile data. I have my smartphone back.
My recommendation is that since VzW/Samsung (whoever wants to fall on the sword) will not provide a solution then call customer service and firmly insist on a replacement phone shipped as quickly as possible.
I does correct the symptoms. The cause is poor customer support from VzW by releasing a poorly tested update to the market. I will be much more cautious on any future releases.
